About Amy Denise

For as long as I can remember, I've been drawn to magic, not just in stories, but in the quiet beauty of the world around us.

Today, I paint dreamlike landscapes filled with wonder, mystery, and emotion for those who still believe in something more.

Where It Began

As a child, I was always creating, drawing characters from the Sunday comics, collecting crayon shavings in a Strawberry Shortcake tin because I couldn’t bear to throw away something so beautiful, and daydreaming of magical worlds.

But like many dreamers, I was gently nudged toward a more “practical” path. Art was never seen as a way to build a life, so I learned early on to trade my crayons for textbooks and dreams for expectations.

Deep down, though, I knew that wasn’t my truth.

My first “real” painting—a Bob Ross-inspired sunset over water—won an award in fifth grade. I didn’t even know it had been entered into a competition. I never saw it on display. But I did feel something light up inside me when I painted.

And then… I stopped.

Losing My Way

Life took me in many creative directions—fashion design, graphic design, and digital art.

I kept creating, but it was always for others.

I was designing for approval, trying to live up to expectations. Slowly, I lost the part of me that created just for the joy of it.

Eventually, that disconnection caught up with me. I felt stuck. Lost. Something was missing.

And finally, I realized what it was.

Finding My Way Back

I started drawing again.

I searched for classes, for guidance, for anything that could help me reconnect with that part of myself.

Through surface pattern design and classes like Bonnie Christine's Immersion, I began to remember who I was.

The book, The Artist's Way, cracked something open in me.

And then, one quiet spring morning, I finished the last chapter.

I sat on my couch, wrapped in a blanket, coffee in hand, and thought, what now?

That question led me to sign up for an acrylic painting class at the Indy Art Center.

I was nervous at first. But after a few classes, I realized something powerful: everyone there was just like me.

We weren’t creating for perfection. We were creating for the joy of it.

For the first time in years, I felt whole again.

What I Create Now

Now, I paint the landscapes of my imagination, dreamlike scenes filled with magic, mystery, and quiet beauty.

My work is for the dreamers.

For anyone who still believes in wonder.
For those who find comfort in fantasy.
For those who need a reminder that there is still magic in the world.

This is the art of coming home to yourself.

And it’s my joy to share it with you.
