The best way to cool down on a hot summer day is with a nice icy cold sweet treat. My favorite is homemade vanilla ice cream. A couple of years ago my mom bought me the ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchenaid mixer. After that, every Friday I made homemade ice cream. I started to think about what it was that makes ice cream so special. As a child it was a big deal if we had ice cream. It was usually some sort of celebration. Ice cream is something that everyone loves. And no matter your dietary needs, there is a version of an ice cream treat for you. Obviously ice cream is something that I love, and I love making it for my family and friends. This collection of patterns is my way of making ice cream for you.
When I was brainstorming ideas for a summer fabric collection I couldn’t stop thinking about ice cream. So I decided to stop fighting it and just go for it. I had already been sketching and doodling ice cream designs in my sketchbook which also just reinforced that i needed to go with the idea. I took photos of my homemade ice cream and added those to my sketches.
While creating the patterns I kept in mind the needs of apparel designers and quilters. I made sure to include some 2 way patterns, some pattens that would allow for fussy cuts and some cool blender prints. The most challenging part of creating this fabric collection was deciding on my color palette. The colors I started with when designing this collection were completely changed by the end and I’m so happy with how it all came out. My favorite color way is the purple. It has a modern feel while the teal color way has a more vintage vibe.
For quilting and apparel these patterns will add lots of vibrant color and movement. Kitchen accessories and aprons would look lovely in the patterns. I think my favorite idea for the Ice Cream Shop patterns is swimwear.
