Do you ever start on a project and then in the middle completely head off in a different direction and you can’t pull yourself away and go back to the original project or idea? That is what happened when working on my latest collection.
Creating the Carousel Surface Pattern Collection
My newest collection of pattern designs called Carousel came about after I had spent weeks working on a completely different collection called At The Fair. I had a collection of 8 patterns that I liked, but for some reason it didn’t feel complete. I kept playing with my motifs and I had a whole set of carousel designs that i hadn’t even started to work with. My page was so full of artwork that I had to start fresh in a clean document, pulling over all of my carousel pieces. My intention was to just create one design to add to At the Fair, but once I got started I couldn’t stop. I was loving every pattern that came from this artwork.
While working on this collection I had apparel and quilting in mind. The majority of prints in this collection are 2 way. And there are cute motifs for fussy cuts. When creating the patterns I was only using 5 colors. Once the collection was complete I wanted to add more and ended up with 6 colors and 3 color ways.
Uses for the Carousel Pattern Collection
The patterns in the Carousel collection would make bright beautiful quilts, bags and apparel. Since my background is in apparel I envisioned these patterns on blouses, pants, skirts, dresses, and pajamas.
